Team 2: 3 different ideas for 3 different transmedia franchises

We have come up with 3 options to go with for our project. These are the ideas we have in mind. Below you can read a really dense version of what we intend to do. We would really appreciate your opinions.

The Truman Show (1998)

A movie about an insurance salesman/adjuster discovers his entire life is actually a TV show. Quite often transmedia franchises are started with books, we have a different approach. The Truman Show is very popular, so this can be exploited to gain economic interest, but also to gain a Truman experience by users and let them really engage. We will make a franchise out of this project by making a TV Series, online and offline games, user generated content and merchandise products.

A chocolate bar which has been forgotten about by consumers. Though it is still very loved it has been pushed to the background. This brand can regain its previous consumers, but also new ones with our approach. Transmedia franchise can be formed by games, animations, apps, mobisodes, merchandise products and commercials.

This franchise may only seem to target a younger audience, however looking at our peer students we can conclude they are also attracted to games and commercials (think of the commercial by Coca Cola).

Books by Nicci French, main character: Frieda Klein

The books tell the story of Frieda Klein, a psychotherapist who discovers murder stories of her patients (either dreams or real life). It is a serie of 8 books. This can easily be formed into a franchise by adjusting it by creating TV Series, Spin off of the TV Series, Video games, movies, mobisodes/webisodes, merchandise products and children’s equipment.

Kind regards,

TEAM 2 (Lisanne, Pol, Emmy &)

I really like your ideas! Your ideas are very creative, especially the Milkyway is very interesting. But how do you think you will bring it back into society and make it a leader in the competition between other candybars including Snickers and Twix? And do you know why it has been put into the background? Is it because it is old and people have had enough of it? Other than that your idea to expand Milkyway seems like a fun idea, good job!

I really like the Truman Show idea. I really enjoyed the movie and it would be nice to see what else you can do with the movie. Truman show has gained a cult status and I think with expanding the idea with making a series or game will at least reach those fans.

I agree with Soumaya and I am really curious about how you guys are going to expand this. Maybe you can think of short movie clips and instead of using the head character you can also use other people.
Furthermore, the Milkyway idea is awesome! I remember that when I was younger they tried to make Milkyway more popular by putting them on the flippo;s and maybe you can expand that to the extent of even making t shirts, designing a contest i.e. ‘your milkyway experience’
    great ideas!

I really like your ideas! Especially, turning an ‘old’ media product into a franchise.
However, the books by Nicci French are thrillers right? How are you going to turn it into children’s equipment? I don’t think that children are the target group. Just keep in mind what the target group is.

I really like the Truman Show and the Milkyway idea’s! It would be quite remarkable if you could somehow bring the experience of the Truman show to other forms of media and include the users in the experience somehow? For the Milkyway idea, I think that it’s a great idea because everyone loves chocolate, and it could make a great comeback just like (I think) Skittles did a few years ago by renewing their image.

My favorite is by far the Truman show. The movie was really entertaining and I see a lot of room for turning it into a transmedia franchise. Maybe you can start a show called the ”Truman For a Day” (or something like that), to include the audience/users, as Bilal stated. So you can create a show where people can apply to be followed around for a day/week? I do think that this is quite difficult for most individuals, so maybe including a prize can spice things up. Furthermore, I do think merchandise can be successful, but I’m wondering what kind of games you wish to create from the Truman Show. That sounds like a less feasible idea at the moment as there is no description of what the game will be about and how it contributes to the main narrative.
